"Oh ,my…. This organ got out of order and
doesn't make this sound…"
In 1887,Organs started to be produced in Hamamatsu
because the organ which was imported from the U.S. and
was treasured at the Hamamatsu elementaly school broke.
Yamaha Torakusu, who was a repair man for medical
instruments and later established YAMAHA,determined to
copy the structure with fixing the organ and to try to
make an organ by himself.
After two monthes , he and Kawai Kizaburo, who was a
craftsman , finished the first organ . They brought it to
Tokyo and the organ was examinded there.
But it failed because the tunig was incorrect .
So after studying Music theory for one month, they
started to make the second organ by cutting down on his
sleep .
Then finaly, they completed the second organ , which was
no worse than the American organs.
In 1897, Toragusu established Japan Music Instrument Inc.(present YAMAHA
Corp.)
In 1900, they succeeded in producing a piano owing to Piano Action
completed by Kawai Koichi, an engineer.
In 1937, He became independent from YAMAHA Inc. with his seven favorite
pupils and established KAWAI Music Instruments Laboratory (present KAWAI
Musical Instruments Mfg. Co.,Ltd.).
After that, music instruments industry took root in Hamamatsu and now
100% of piano in Japan are made in Hamamatsu.
